For anyone old enough to remember the Jackson 5 carton, did you know that the group was so busy, they couldn’t even voice their own characters in the cartoon. So, soundalikes were hired.
Edmund Sylvers – the voice of Marlon – had the perfect tenor voice to play the 4th Jackson brother. His voice was so popular that he and his family band, The Sylvers, soon became stars on their own, scoring a chart-topping hit in 1976, Boogie Fever.
The Sylvers followed the Jackson 5 formula scoring apperances and press in major publications such as Right On! Although the Sylvers never gained Jackson 5 popularity, Edmund staked out a name for himself in music by releasing his own solo project and doing instrumental work for other artists, including Gladys Knight and Janet Jackson.
Edmund died of lung cancer in 1985, leaving behind a gang of family – 11 children, both parents & 8 brothers and sisters. Today, we “boogie” in honor of Edmund Sylvers and another Hump Day under our belts.
I think, “Pretty Boy” would be the first word that comes to mind when you see a picture of Richard “Dimples” Fields. Pretty though he was, he talent was worth noting. He was famous for his songs, “If It Ain’t One Thing, It’s Another,” and “She’s Got Papers On Me.” So, what’s up with the name, “Dimples.” According to sources, Fields was nicknamed that by a female “admirer” who said he was always smiling.
