Donell Jones is one of the smoothest cats and I’ve never understood why the masses didn’t show him love like he deserved. Well, our good friends over at Grown Folks Music got a chance to find out what he’s been up to and what’s next on his agenda. Check out the interview here.

Allison Carney

Allison Carney

There is a new “injecktion” for Music Addikts to add into their soul music stream, and her name is Alison Carney.  On Halloween night, she opened for Jaguar Wright at The Scene in Washington D.C.  At first glance, she is a petite, doll-like image on stage.  But, when the music begins, reality sets in that she is a complete package of talent.  Her sound takes listeners into a hypnotic place with seductive keyboard tones and vo

cals that are charming and sincere.  Right away, you can feel the infectiousness of her music.  Of the songs she performed from her LP, the stand outs were the floating sounds of “You Said” and the harmony-layered “More Than”.  The stage is Alison’s home and her voice is the perfect décor.

After the show, I managed to get an interview with her by the bar.  Here is how it went:

C Notes:  Thanks for giving me a few minutes to interview you.

Alison Carney:  No problem.

C Notes:  First off, you are amazing!  I loved your show!

Alison Carney:  Aww…thank you!

C Notes:  So where are you from?  Here?

Alison Carney:  Yes, right here…in D.C.

C Notes: When did you realize you wanted to sing?  Was it in church at the age of 5 like most other singers? (Laughing)

Alison Carney:  Yes I started off in church, but I was 3 (laughing).

C Notes:  What church was that?

Alison Carney:  Ward Memorial AME Church here in D.C.

C Notes: Is that when you realized you wanted to sing?

Alison Carney:  Actually no.  I realized I wanted to sing when I was studying for the LSAT.

C Notes:  Oh, wow!  So are you an attorney?

Alison:  No…I’m a teacher.  I teach young kids.  So I consider myself to be a singer/educator.

C Notes:  How funny!  So many people study one thing and do another.  I just got an MBA and have no interest in Finance.  I enjoy writing about music. (Both laughing)  So what is the formula for your sound?

Alison Carney:  Hmm…I would say soul, rock, electric…and honest.

C Notes: Nice!  And what do you want people to take away from your music?

Alison Carney:  (I want my music) to put them in a good mood, give a sense of fun and I want people to enjoy my music.

C Notes: What’s next for you?

Alison Carney:  I want to tour.  I love touring.  Also, I’m working on a full length LP on an independent label.  I’m hoping to release it in the spring.

C Notes: Where can people go to find out where you’ll be performing or what you’ll be doing?

Alison Carney:  On November 10th, I’m performing at Ben’s Next Door in D.C.  Also, my website is www.alisoncarney.com.

C Notes:  Are you on Facebook and Twitter?

Alison Carney:  Yes, on Twitter I am Alison_Carney and on Facebook I’m under Alison Carney Music.

C Notes:  Cool!  Again, thanks so much for the interview.

Alison:  Oh, you’re welcome!

C Notes:  Good luck with everything and I’ll come and check you out on November 10th at Ben’s.

Check out the video of her performing “You Said” from her upcoming full length LP:

Interview: Foreign Exchange

foreignexchangeRecently Music Addikts got a chance to kick it with Nicolay and Phonte of The Foreign Exchange.  The two originally met through Okayplayer.com and completed their first album as a group before even meeting face-to-face.  Although their meeting was a little unconventional, the studio chemistry between these two is evident in the Hip-Hop infused “Connected” as well as the more mellow R&B charged “Leave it All Behind”.  Whether rapping or  singing the end result is the same…a fix that any ADDIKT can appreciate.  If you aren’t familiar with The Foreign Exchange let the Music Addikts introduce you to one of our favorite groups in this exclusive interview.   For all you long time fans go below the jump to find out what artist F.E. would love to collaborate with, their thoughts on Twitter and what’s next for them as a group as well as solo artists.  Drop us a line if you enjoyed the interview and even if you didn’t.

*Special thanks to Aimee for all your help setting up the interview.
