I discovered Jazzy a longgggggg time ago on MySpace. Actually, the catchy tune “Make-Up” grabbed me. I’m glad to see she’s back with new tunes. This is true R&B, which is definitely missing from our current musical climate. Check out the new song from her upcoming mixtape entitled, Beauty and the Beat, slated to be released on May 5th.  ADDIKTS, let us know what you think!

Shauny J gives us her version of Conya Doss’ “What I’d Do” from her Still… album. The New York native describes her style as unique and begs the question “What’s the point of singing if I’m just going to sound like “the next…?” With that said what do the ADDIKTS think of this weeks AFF pick? Is it INJEKTION worthy?

“Where You Are” is Patterson’s signature tune and you have to love it even today. His self-titled debut in 1997, helped fuel the neo-soul movement and put him on the map.

We Miss You Wednesday: Carmen McRae

And the beat rolls on. This week wraps up the month of April and our celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month. In case you haven’t been keeping up with us, every Wednesday this month, we’ve honored great jazz musicians. What better way to round out the month, then by honoring a lesser know female vocalist – Carmen McRae.

For every LeBron, there is a lesser known player that is as good, if not better. In the jazz era of the ’60s that lesser known player was Carmen McRae. Only 8 years younger than her idol, Billie Holiday, Carmen was just entering the jazz game when Ella and Sarah had already made their mark. She didn’t win any awards and never had a big hit, but she had a voice that could move your insides.

Learn more about this great artist here and check out the video below of Carmen McRae performing, “I’m Going to Lock My Heart and Throw Away The Key.”
