Before T-Pain, there was Roger Troutman – the originator of Auto-tune. Roger Troutman was best know to ol’ skoolers as the lead singer of the Zapp band. New skoolers best know Roger for his voice over some timeless west coast hip-hop tracks. Think Dr. Dre, Snoop, E-40, Ice Cube, Easy-E and Warren G. Remember “California Love” with Dr. Dre and 2pac? That catchy chorus was sung by none other than Roger Troutman.
Fatally shot by his brother in 1999, Roger’s life was cut painfully short. In his time here on Earth, Roger Troutman carried the torch for the funk movement. And so we remember him today.
It’s Hump Day and no better way to reminisce then with the original auto-tune jam, “Computer Love.”
